"Putting the Function back into Functional!" What does 'functional' really mean in the sword world? Often, especially when surfing the web, the terms 'fully functional' and 'battle ready' are thrown about the sword marketplace much like 'all new' and 'unique' are used for just about anything else commercial; naturally, one can be easily pulled into believing that this sword or that one is 'battle ready' and 'fully functional'- however, if you peruse some of the listings you'll find online, such as eBay, these two terms are applied to just about anything. The justification being that, even though it might be made of stainless steel, and may not be made to original specs, that the piece CAN perform its intended purpose, though it may not survive that initial undertaking. These two terms mean somewhat more the discerning sword collector interested in period arms (and armor) that are destined for more than accruing dust in a gloomy den or over a fireplace- that the collectors of the swords available on THIS site are for the serious collector, the student/practitioner of the art of the sword as well as the casual backyard cutter - all of whom share one commonality- they love REAL swords and armor.
