Cheness Iaito

This is a trial run of a small batch production for our new Junior Length Iaito.

This sword is made for those practitioners who are smaller in stature... Where a regular length iaito is simply too long to draw correctly. This is a slightly shorter version of our Delux iaito and is blunted on the cutting edge to reduce the chance of injuries during practice.

Our Delux Carbon Steel Iaito is constructed of through hardened 1045 carbon steel as with our Type 8. The Delux version also uses a new tsuka core with harder wood and channels carved in for the same skin to be seated in... Thereby resulting in a more oval feeling grip. This version also uses black colored same skin and a new upgraded brown ito that has less stretch and a better feeling wrap.

This is a matching wakizashi iaito for our 27" Delux Iaito. 18" blade length and 6.5" tsuka length.

Our Type 9 Iaito is constructed of a heat treated stainless steel. (A well treated stainless steel blade with increased resiliency can be still very suitable in katana length. It is, in fact, harder on the tools and a more difficult material to work with.) It does not require the maintanence as a carbon steel blade would since it is resistant to staining and corrosion. The edge of this blade is blunted for iai kata practices. Cutting edge is smoothly finished so there is less of the dangers associated with using a live blade for kata. The assembly and tolerances are exactly the same as our regular blades. This blade is not made for cutting or striking.

The new Lightweight Iaito is designed to have the same weight benefit as a zinc aluminum iaito, but without the drawback of brittleness. This sword is ideal for extended periods of kata practice while minimizing the strain on your arm. New textured saya also minimizes apparence of scuffs, scratches, and dents typically sustained during practices.
